OptiSwitch Product Line

The OptiSwitch(R) 9000 series is a carrier-class product for Metro Ethernet services with range of models to address carrier migration from copper local loop to fiber transport for business and residential broadband services.
  • Enhanced Ethernet services and fiber optic aggregation
    • Integrates IP/MPLS/Bridging Intelligence & eWDM(R) services
    • Traffic control / provisioning on user / service basis
    • Multilayer QoS
  • Multilayer OAM
  • Standards-based technology

The OptiSwitch 9000 offers enhanced optical Ethernet services for triple-play voice, video and data networks. In now days, provider access network is de-facto Ethernet with several layers of aggregation devices. This concept brings distributed model of Ethernet services and correlating requirement for different type of aggregation devices, with small to medium densities that fits first mile aggregation and in-building connectivity, which is really close to services and users.

Applications -> Scalable solution from Building demarcation to Central Office

  • IP/DSLAM aggregation services
  • FTTX aggregation servcies
    • Gigabit Ethernet Residential Services
    • Fast Ethernet Residential Services
  • Co-location services
  • Wavelength cross connect services

The objective of this series is to aggregate FTTX (fiber plants) or IP/DSLAMs towards provider service network and provision various flows traversing each service port with line rate forwarding. OS9000 flow-based QoS, security ACLs, bandwidth shaping, and multilayer operation, administration & management (OA&M) features makes significant enforcement for carrier services at first aggregation layer of Metro Ethernet Network.

The uniqueness of MRV's solution is based on versatility, having migration modes of applications on top of the same platform to converged voice, data and video onto a single packet-based network. The carrier can operate the equipment in 3 phases, starting from physical layer Ethernet WDM (eWDM) cross connect, moving to enhanced Ethernet services, and by only a software upgrade to an MPLS services. This concept can shorten time to market of new services and reduce technical risks that typically found on evolving number of layered products.

  • More Servies with reduced CAPEX/OPEX

As an aggregation device in Ethernet & MPLS layers, the OS9000 multiplex aggregated traffic flows, segregate it with relevant encapsulation and will offer binding of differentiated service levels at each subscriber's application flows. This migration path provides scalability of services by mapping from tag based technology, to label based technology. The all-in-one design simplifies network operations and provides a foundation for delivery of multimedia services.

Optical Integration into Intelligent Services

MRV's in-house know-how experience and optical portfolio can offer various SFP interfaces flexibility to enable versatile multimode, single mode, and single fiber connections, or shared physical fiber for multiple MTUs Gigabit rate private line premium services.
Intelligent switching with VLAN/MPLS cross connect to wavelength service can provision various creative services that can be tailored per customer's demands without multiple boxes.
  • Optical Services for local loop rings
  • Optical Services for local loop spokes to CO

OS9000 offers high density fiber communications in only 2U form factor design. The system deep saves rack space and facilitates installations for carriers that are striving in optical intelligent services extension to business parks, business Multi Tenant Units and residential Multi Dwelling Units. Small form factor design and front loadable elements ease installations and optimized for placement in basements, mini POPs, POPs, and Central Offices.
  • Optical Services Fiber to the building

QoS Services

The OS9000 solution is purpose-build for triple play (video, voice, data) converged IP/Ethernet networks. Its QoS enforced with latest MEF recommendations and IETF standards to help service providers to meet growing demands of business and residential customers.

OS9000 can construct thousands of classified flows based on traversed services whether its Voice over IP, video over IP or just best effort data, and to match each service criteria. Each service isolated and mapped with relevant QoS profile with correlating bandwidth control and service level. Today's common techniques for Metro Ethernet services have similarities to legacy Frame Relay. Customer or application policed and shaped based on VLANs or Layer 2-3-4 packet headers. Such bandwidth service can be offered on each of traversing flow in OS9000 with Committed Information Rate (CIR) and Excesses Information Rate (EIR) with flexible granularity of 64kbps. The OS9000 offers significant enhancement for traffic management by offering dynamic bandwidth sharing between subscribers / services. This feature enables preservation of SLA for active subscribers/applications as guaranteed bandwidth, and sharing the unused bandwidth from non-active subscribers/applications.

Enhanced Multilayer OAM

The OS9000 offers standard-based in-band and out-of-band secure management including SNMPv3, SSHv2, SCP, RADIUS and hierarchical administration policy. Using secure remote management, a carrier can access traffic counters on any given interface, providing statistics on real-time traffic per micro flow within a service, and type of traversing traffic for accunting, capacity planning and QoS monitoring. In addition, physical layer diagnostics tools deliver Optical Performance Monitoring (OPM) and Virtual Cable Diagnostics (VCD) to reduce maintenance truck-rolls.
  • Manageability - Physical Layer OAM
  • Service Assurance per VPN - in-band OAM
  • Differentiated Traffic Accounting
  • OS9000 Lawful Interception - Analyzer Port

Manageability - Physical Layer OAM
The OS9000 supports the SFP digital diagnostics standard that allows management of the cable plant and optical transmission quality, providing the ability to proactively respond to issues before they cause network downtime. The VCD tool allows time domain reflectometry (TDR) to diagnose copper cables connected to OS9000 RJ45 ports.
